Thomas Trum conceives series according to conceptual rules he sets. The rules of the game are constantly redefined by him. As with any successful player, intuition and luck are ultimately part of success, in addition to skill and experience. The outcome of the work process remains open until the last moment of execution.
His great skill and joy in artistic activity are visible in the concentrated execution of his self-imposed rules, which concern the selection of the monochrome pigment to be used, the size of the squeegee to be employed, and the sequence of movements, which is often reduced to two or at most three continuous painting movements.
Later, when the viewer follows the movement of the squeegees on the surface, he recognizes the concentration in the execution and follows with fascination the course of the lines as they overlap, superimpose, slow down or accelerate and form new forms and fine structures through the transparent superimposition.
